Minerva is back from media blasting and there is still some work to be done. The blasting work has opened up existing rust holes and increased the number of needed replacement body panels. We tried a combination of three separate engines and suspension assemblies to see which would have the best fitment. Two of them were from late model Subaru vehicles and the other a GM vehicle.
It turns out the GM engine/suspension combination fit in both height and width… we were also very surprised to find the GM bolt pattern on the hub was the same as Minerva’s VW wheels. The engine is GM’s popular 2.4-liter inline-4 that produces 169 horsepower and is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox… Minerva is getting 100 more horsepower and a fuel efficient 6-speed automatic transmission!
