This month’s winner of the Metal of Honor Project for Oxford Valley is Jerry McMullin of Bensalem, PA with his 2002 Chevy Silverado pickup. Jerry served us proudly in the Marines when he fought for us in Vietnam. He was injured in battle — sustaining a wound that would send him to four hospitals in 12 months for various surgeries.
On the surface, Jerry’s truck has the typical rust spreading like cancer over the wheel wells. He was nominated by his wife Christine since he’s now on disability and social security — money that cannot afford them the luxury of having the vehicle repaired. Jerry was so overwhelmed with gratitude, he handed to Rich Tornetta the helmet he wore in battle to keep as a token of his appreciation. Rich… who is rarely short on words… was rendered speechless. They plan to display the helmet at their Oxford Valley location once the repair is finished.
