According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the United States is at its lowest level of auto collision fatalities since 1949. This is good news, but that number still averages out to about 32,000 per year.
Philadelphia roads can be dangerous
Well, Philadelphia… we’re some of the worst drivers in the nation (6th worst to be exact). According to a report from Allstate Insurance Company on the 8th Annual Best Drivers for 2012, Philadelphia, PA ranked 190 out of 196 cities in the United States. That means Philadelphians are 64.1% more likely to get in a car accident than the national average. Many cities on average have people that will get in an accident every 10 years. Philadelphia drivers will get in an accident every 6.1 years.
Not so fast, New Jersey
Just over the bridge where seven of the CollisionMax auto body shops are located, New Jersey is home to the 8th, 11th, 15th and 18th worst drivers in the US. The worst NJ city to be ranked in the report was Newark, NJ with a rank of 188, which is just two points better than Philadelphia. The likelihood of a Newark New Jerseyan getting in an accident is 59.4% above the national average. These drivers will get in an accident every 6.3 years.

And the award goes to…
It turns out Washington, D.C. has the worst driver rank and therefore the least safe roads in the US. They have drivers that will get in an accident every 4.7 years and are 112.1% more likely to get in an accident than the national average.
So, who is the safest? Sioux Falls, South Dakota is the safest city according to this report. The drivers there only get in an accident every 13.8 years and are 27.6% LESS likely to get in an accident compared to the national average.Allstate’s Best Driver’s Report was created to boost the country’s discussion on safe driving.
