Did you know?

Sicklerville, a section of Winslow Township in Camden County, NJ, takes its name from a German family who emigrated in 1754 and changed their name from “Ziegler” to “Sickler.” John Sickler, one of three brothers, credited with being the town’s first resident when he built a home in a thick forests and started a logging business. As the land was cleared of tress, the community’s main business changed from logging to farming.

In 1872, the town’s first railroad station was built, bearing the name “Sicklertown”. But when Paul Sickler, a descendant of the original Sicklers, opened the town’s first post office in his general store in 1874, the sign out front said “Sicklerville”. As a result, the town was known by both names for a number of years. The Sicklerville zip code also covers residents in neighboring Gloucester and Washington townships.
