PaintZoo Makes Bryzgalov's Star Wars Mask Accurate

CollisionMax's Airbrush Partner PaintZoo Alters Flyers Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov's Star Wars Mask

It was not long after the debut of Ilya Bryzgalov's new goalie mask that Flyers fans noticed Yoda's lightsaber color being an inaccurate orange to match Ilya's team colors. The mask was airbrushed by renowned artist (and authorized Bauer mask painter) Franny Drummond of PaintZoo in Bensalem, PA. "The idea of an orange light saber seemed like a somewhat trivial detail during the planning phase of the design", said Drummond. "We thought going with all Flyers colors would look cool on the new mask."

Fran Drummond had just completed the intense airbrush job on Pierre Robert's 1972 Volkswagen microbus named Minerva for CollisionMax's "Minerva Project". His next big job was to create a 2013 goalie mask for Ilya Bryzgalov of the Philadelphia Flyers. Mr. Drummond is no stranger to the Flyers or goalie masks in general. He has painted masks for Michael Leighton, Ray Emery and Tukkaa Rask to name a few as well as The 2012 Winter Classic mask for Ilya Bryzgalov.

Upon hearing the response from fans on the incorrect color of Yoda's lightsaber, Fran responded, "we didn't think anyone would really notice, we didn't want to offend anyone". Therefore the mask was handed back so that Mr. Drummond could make the orange lightsaber the correct green color as seen in Star Wars Episodes II and III. Ilya played today, March 3rd, with the new mask against the Ottawa Senators where he stopped 33 shots and brought the Flyers a win, which was his personal 200th career victory.
